Booking Through Thursday

Beginnings July 24, 2008

What are your favourite first sentences from books? Is there a book that you liked specially because of its first sentence? Or a book, perhaps that you didn’t like but still remember simply because of the first line?

I think most reader are familiar with the first line "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." To be honest, I can't remember any first lines of books that stayed with me. Title catch me more than first lines. I just finished a book with the title Don't Make Me Choose Between Me and My Shoes by Dixie Cash. Tell me that's not a catchy title?

I love catchy titles, and that one sounds interesting. I've got several books on Mt. TBR that I picked up for the sheer joy of being asked what I'm reading.

I don't remember first lines very well either. As for titles, I really like "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!", and it turned out to be a great read.

My BTT post is here

I can't figure out why my comments don't show up on the BTT site. I've tried logging in to Wordpress, and using Firefox and Internet Explorer. No difference there. I think they've blacklisted me, lol.

I haven't read the book, but I have heard of that line somewhere.

Here's my list of memorable first lines.
