Friday 5 for August 1: Before Your Time August 1, 2008

2. What person of historical significance was from your neighborhood or city? I can't think of anyone from where I live.
3. What’s a story that’s often been told about someone in your family in the years before you came along? My Grandfather had a sister that died in a horrible car crash and the possibility of suicide was mentioned. No one ever knew for sure.
4. Which of previous generations’ dumb mistakes (in deed or thought) baffles you the most? I think our previous generations had it way more together than young people now.
5. What aspect of life in the good old days would you love to see a return to? Family values, moms staying home and raising their children.

Friday 5 for July 25: Metaphors Be With You July 25, 2008

When you go to the beach, lake, or pool, are you more likely to lower yourself gradually into cold water or to take a determined plunge and get it over with? It depends, sometimes I take it slow, others times I dive right in.
How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other tasks or ordeals? Again, it depends on the situation but usually I take it slow.
When someone gives you flowers, are you more likely to let them turn completely brown and gross before throwing them out, or to discard them the moment they take on that sick-flower look? I usually throw them away when they get too sick looking.
How is this like (or unlike) your approach to other gifts, purchases, or relationships? My last relationship had turned brown, grown mold and started to smell really bad! And I keep gifts and purchases far too long - I hate getting rid of anything!
Think of your favorite movie (or a movie you really like, if you can’t think of a favorite). Some people say that the reasons you love your favorite movie are related to what you value in romantic relationships. How is this true or untrue in your case? My all-time favorite movie is Tarzan (the animated version). The reasons I love this movie are 1.) the underlying message of acceptance of anyone regardless of their circumstances or looks and 2.) the great music. And I supposed both of those are important in a relationship.

Friday 5 for July 18: Bad Food

1. What was the last meal that caused you to be ill? Just Wednesday morning we ate at Burger King for breakfast and both Dave and I were ill.
2. Are there any places you never dine anymore because of a bad experience hours after the meal? Absolutely.
3. What’s your prescription for dealing with a food-caused illness? Tums, a Rolaids chewable, and a hot bath.
4. When friends tell you about coming down with food-caused illnesses, do you avoid the places they name, or do you figure it’s a dice-roll wherever you go? I think it's a dice-roll. You never know when you are going to get sick from a meal, it can happen at home.
5. After numerous citations, a very, very popular restaurant that you’re quite fond of is shut down by the health department until it can get everything up to code. When the health department gives the restaurant the o.k. to reopen, do you go? Sure.

  4. What’s your theory about why it’s so easy to get annoyed when one is behind the wheel of a vehicle? Driving is stressful so it is easy to get more stressed.
  5. What regular, minor annoyance have you learned to tolerate? With Dave's job and him needing to be available 24/7 I am learning to tolerate his Nextel. But it's not easy!

Friday 5

Friday 5 for May 16: Old, Young
What makes you feel old? Thinking about the fact that I now have two grown children and one grandchild. There is no way I am old enough for that!
What makes you feel young? My granddaughter, Bailey.
What was better when you were allowed to do it the old way? The family unit was better when Mom was able to stay home and be there for the kids.
What’s better now that you do it the new way? I think being able to research something on line is way better than having to look something up in an encyclopedia. Books become outdated so quickly and the internet is up to the minute.
What’s something you are old school about? We try and have a family dinner (sit down at the table, home cooked food, meaningful conversation) at least four nights a week.
